TCS (Tax Collected at Source) is collected by the seller at the time of sale. Formula: TCS amount = Transaction value × TCS rate ÷ 100. Example: for a ₹1,00,000 sale of scrap at 1% TCS, the buyer pays ₹1,01,000 — the seller deposits ₹1,000 with the government. Common TCS rates: scrap 1%, alcohol 1%, tendu leaves 5%, motor vehicles above ₹10 lakh 1%, foreign remittance (LRS) 5–20%.
