CGPA to Percentage Converter

Choose your board or university formula and convert in either direction. Add semester SGPAs with credits to get your CGPA, and see a quick conversion table for your formula.

QUICK ANSWERFor CBSE, percentage = CGPA × 9.5 (8.6 CGPA = 81.7%). Many universities use CGPA × 10, and VTU uses (CGPA − 0.75) × 10 (8.6 CGPA = 78.5%). There is no single national formula, so always use the one printed on your marksheet or transcript. CGPA from semesters = Σ(SGPA × credits) ÷ Σ credits.

Why CGPA conversion formulas differ

CBSE derived 9.5 from the average percentage of students scoring A1 grades across years, which is why CGPA × 9.5 is CBSE-specific. Universities set their own rules: some use ×10, some subtract a constant (VTU), and some publish a table. Employers usually accept the formula printed on your transcript.

For applications abroad on a 4.0 scale, a linear conversion gives a rough idea, but agencies such as WES do their own course-by-course evaluation.

Frequently asked questions

What is 8 CGPA in percentage?

76% with the CBSE formula (8 × 9.5), 80% with ×10 and 72.5% with VTU’s (8 − 0.75) × 10.

How do I calculate CGPA from SGPA?

Multiply each semester’s SGPA by its total credits, add them up and divide by the total credits of all semesters. If all semesters have equal credits, it is the simple average.

Which formula does AKTU / Anna University use?

Universities update their rules; check the conversion note on your grade card or the university’s ordinance. Use the Custom option to enter that exact formula.
