Government Document Checklist Maker: never go back from the office for one missing paper

Make every visit count
Keep a folder (paper and a phone folder) with clear scans of Aadhaar, PAN, photo, birth or class 10 certificate, address proof, caste and income certificates and the bank passbook. Most portals accept JPG or PDF under a few hundred KB, so save compressed copies too.
Self-attest photocopies by signing across them, carry originals for verification and keep the acknowledgement slip of every application. Document lists here follow the official portals; your state may ask for one or two extra papers.
Frequently asked questions
What documents are required for a passport?
Proof of present address (Aadhaar, utility bill, bank passbook, rent agreement etc.) and proof of date of birth. For anyone born on or after 1 October 2023, the birth certificate is the only accepted proof of date of birth. Carry originals and self-attested copies.
What documents are needed for an income certificate?
Usually Aadhaar, an address proof, proof of income (salary slip, ITR or a self-declaration for farmers and daily-wage workers), the ration card and a photo. Exact lists vary by state.
Is Aadhaar enough as address proof everywhere?
Aadhaar is accepted as address proof for most central services, including passport, PAN, voter ID and bank accounts, if the address on it is current.
