Tips to actually receive the money
Scholarships are paid by DBT into the student’s Aadhaar-seeded bank account. Before applying, visit your bank and confirm Aadhaar seeding with the NPCI mapper. Keep the income certificate for the current year, the caste certificate, the fee receipt or bonafide certificate, and the last mark sheet ready as PDFs.
Renewal is not automatic: you must renew every academic year before the deadline, usually with the latest mark sheet. If you are a school or college, set up one person as the nodal officer to verify applications on time; unverified applications lapse at the institute level.
Frequently asked questions
What is the income limit for post-matric scholarship?
For SC, ST and OBC/EBC/DNT post-matric scholarships it is ₹2.5 lakh family income a year. For minority post-matric it is ₹2 lakh. Merit schemes like the Central Sector Scholarship allow up to ₹4.5 lakh, and AICTE Pragati and Saksham up to ₹8 lakh.
Where do I apply for government scholarships?
On the National Scholarship Portal (scholarships.gov.in) for central schemes, or your state scholarship portal for state-administered schemes like post-matric SC/OBC. Your institute verifies the application, so apply early.
Can a general category student get a scholarship?
Yes. The Central Sector Scholarship (top 20% in class 12 with income up to ₹4.5 lakh), NMMSS (class 8 exam), AICTE Pragati for girls, INSPIRE-SHE, single girl child and disability scholarships are open to general category students.
Why was my scholarship not credited?
Most often because the bank account is not Aadhaar-seeded for DBT, the institute did not verify the form, or the name differs between Aadhaar and the bank. Check the status on the portal with your application ID.
